Young healthy girlSo while floor boards are being scrubbed, bath tubs bleached, and closets organized, why not add pores to the list of things that could use a thorough cleansing?

Retention Hyperkeratosis is a hereditary condition in which dead skin cells fail to shed from the skin. This condition, which is one of many causes of acne, effects both the surface of the skin and the follicles or pores. The dead cells begin to cluster together in the follicle, where they are mixed with oil produced in that follicle. Now an entirely different beast, this mixture sits as clump deep in the follicle, forming a comedone (either a blackhead or whitehead).

While a more straightforward acne blemish can be topically spot treated and prevented effectively, comedones require more work. While a series of treatments with a skilled esthetician can keep this problem at bay, one series is a temporary solution for a lifelong affliction. At-home, deep pore cleansing is the long term solution. Here are a few ideas for Spring Cleaning those clogged, impacted pores:

GlyMed® Plus Skincare - Age Management OXYGEN Deep Pore Cleanser

This cleanser has it all. Both a cleanser a mask, the OXYGEN Deep Pore Cleanser is going to gently exfoliate, decongest the pores, and kill acne causing bacteria. After gently cleansing the skin, apply a liberal amount of OXYGEN Deep Pore Cleanser to the entire face, but do not massage the product in. Just leave it on the skin, and the cleanser will start to bubble, forcing oxygen that kills acne causing bacteria. After 5-7 minutes, rinse the cleanser off in the shower or remove with a warm facial cloth.

Osmosis Skincare Deep Clean +Polish

Deep Clean is an amazing everyday cleanser for oily and acne prone skin, while Polish is great for all skin types in need of gentle exfoliation. When these two are combined, the result is a powerful pore cleanser for fresh, glowing skin. Start by mixing 1-2 pumps of Deep Clean and 1-2 pumps of Polish. Add to entire face and massage for 5-7 minutes before rinsing with cool water.

IMAGE Skincare VITAL C™ Hydrating Enzyme Masque + AGELESS Total Resurfacing Masque

The IMAGE Skincare VITAL C™ Hydrating Enzyme Masque is a creamy exfoliating mask, while the AGELESS Total Resurfacing Masque contains a 17% blend of glycolic, lactic, and salicylic acid, as well spherical scrubbing beads. Combined, these two masques create the ultimate pore cleansing and exfoliation. Mix a small amount of Vital C Hydrating Enzyme Masque with a small amount of Ageless Total Resurfacing Masque. Apply to cleansed skin and massage for 5 minutes. Leave mixture on for up to 20 minutes before rinsing with cool water.

iS Clinical® Cleansing Complex +Exfoliating Enzyme Treatment

While both of these products are amazing on their own, combining Cleansing Complex with Exfoliating Enzyme Treatment  is a perfect way to decongest clogged pores, regulate oil production, and leave the skin exfoliated and glowing. Start by using a gentle cleanser to remove makeup and any extra debris, then combine a small amount of Cleansing Complex with a small amount of Exfoliating Enzyme Treatment and massage for 3-5 minutes. Rinse with cool water and pat dry.
