Day Spa Acne Treatments
Acne is a common skin condition where inflamed blemishes form mostly on your face. It occurs when your skin’s sebaceous glands produce more oil and, as a result, become clogged. Commonly associated with teenagers during puberty, acne doesn’t discriminate. It can happen at any age to any group and gender.
Problems occur when oil, the buildup of dead skin cells and dirt, all clog your skin’s pores. Clogged pores can form blackheads, or open comedones, that appear dark inside a pore and, in time, expand and enlarge the pores. Whiteheads are closed comedones, which form under your skin’s top layer when oil, dead skin and bacteria are trapped in pores. Other forms of acne are papules, which are small bumps with light pink inflammation; pustules, which are filled with pus, can be painful; and cysts, which commonly form scar tissue are also very painful.
With acne, there are (4) four grades to categorize the level of severity of the skin condition. This helps determine a treatment that reduces and prevents blemishes from forming.
- Grade 1 acne, the most common type, can be a combination of whiteheads and blackheads. It isn't prevalent all the time, but can pop up when your skin becomes congested, with dirt, oil and dead skin clogging your pores. Grade 1 acne is considerably easy to treat and maintain.
- Grade 2 acne, which can occur in women and men, tends to be more prevalent for women and appears about once a month. This form of acne develops whiteheads, blackheads, small papules and pustules. Some of the acne lesions, which usually form along the jawline, cheeks, forehead and nose, can be painful and inflamed. Grade 2 acne is treatable, though it may occur more frequently than Grade 1.
- Grade 3 acne is considered a severe form of acne vulgaris. Papules and pustules appear in larger clusters and your skin is red and irritated. Post-inflammation hyperpigmentation (PIH) can form from scar tissue through acne lesions. This is especially true if the area has been picked at, which spreads the bacteria and leads the acne to multiply and form. At this point, Grade 3 acne needs to be treated by a skin care professional with professional skin treatments, as well as, an at-home skincare product regimen to bring the condition under control.
- Grade 4, an extreme case of acne, can be very painful and the skin is usually always inflamed. This level of acne is cystic and becomes infected. It can be treated effectively with professional treatments, as well as, proper at-home care with cosmeceutical skin care products. This form of acne can cause suffering from the severe pain, located in the nodules. It can also negatively affect a person’s self esteem.
Acne is more or less associated with an imbalance of hormones. When puberty hits and the surge of hormones are released, teenagers are the stereotype for acne and the main target of advertisements for acne products. But acne can also be an issue during pregnancy and even pre/post menopause. Any sort of fluctuation in hormones affects the sebaceous (oil-producing) glands in your skin’s pores and follicles. This excess oil, as well as with the trapping of bacteria and dead skin cells, combines for a disastrous mixture of problems in your pores.
Acne isn’t just contained in the face, although it’s the most common area to have breakouts. In some Grade 2 to Grade 4 cases, acne can form on a person’s chest and back. Take comfort, though, knowing our treatments are designed to address acne, no matter where it appears on your body.
Professional grade skincare products, of course, are an acceptable and highly effective form of treatment for acne. These products increase your skin’s cellular turnover rate that sheds the top layer of dead skin cells, dissolves dirt and oil, while keeping your pores from getting clogged. Cleansers, exfoliants, treatments pads and serums/creams all normally contain alpha hydroxy acids (AHA), such as glycolic acid, and beta hydroxy acids (BHA), such as salicylic acid. These ingredients not only help polish away dead skin cells, but they also help diminish and heal active acne lesions, in addition to helping prevent future outbreaks.
The more severe the grade of acne, the more intense the treatments will need to be. For Grades 3 and 4 acne, consulting with a licensed esthetician will help people suffering from the condition get a better understanding of how to take care of their skin, while receiving facials and treatments. Combined, knowledge and regular treatments will accelerate the healing process, eventually eliminating the formation of PIH, reducing inflammation and encouraging a clear complexion.
SkinTrends estheticians are highly skilled and trained in treatments of all types of skin conditions, including acne. Specialized treatments and services are performed for face, neck and back acne. The treatments include a one-on-one consultation, reviewing the intensity of the acne condition. Then we discuss the development of a treatment program to correct the skin situation, while considering what products should be used at home to facilitate the process.
Acne services range from deep pore cleansing facials with extraction to the removal of buildup in clogged pores, then to the exfoliation and sanitization of your skin to prevent bacteria from spreading. Chemical peels and vitamin infused facial treatments can also help remove excessive buildup of dead skin and assist in clearing clogged pores. Treatments using antiseptic products help keep pores stay clean, in addition to improving your overall complexion.
The severity of your acne condition will determine the process and time it will take to see desired results. With the right treatments, guided information on at-home care and a caring skin care professional, you’ll be headed in the right direction to achieve healthier, clearer, better looking skin.

This effective treatment peel for acne skin conditions, designed by Image Skincare, contains AHA (alpha hydroxy acid) and BHA (beta hydroxy acid) exfoliators. This chemical peel is a 20 percent blend of salicylic and glycolic acids that purifies the pores of your skin and removes the buildup of dead skin cells. The detoxification action from natural essential oils and botanical extracts also reduces inflammation and accelerates the healing of acne lesions.
Salicylic acid is broadly used in the treatment of acne because it helps control sebum (oil) production and unclogs your skin’s pores. Glycolic acid helps acne by removing dead skin buildup, reducing the appearance of pores and balancing oil production. The two combined in a chemical peel treatment helps reduce and prevent future blemishes from forming by increasing your skin’s cellular-renewal rate.
This is also an exceptional peel for anti-aging benefits as well as treating acneic conditions. For effective results, use in a series as part of an at-home regimen to complete an acne and/or anti-aging treatment.

Acne Back Facial
Customized Skincare Products
Faces aren’t just prone to breakouts of acne. Your back, too, can be affected. A back facial consists of a deep cleanse with a cleanser that contains alpha hydroxy acids, or AHAs, and/or butylated hydroxyanisole, or BHAs, to remove residue and bacteria from your skin. An exfoliation (steam-optional) removes the buildup of dead skin cells. Extractions will remove blackheads and whiteheads. After extractions, your skin is then sanitized with a toner. A relaxing back massage and treatment mask, which soothe and calm your skin, conclude the back facial. During the treatment mask, which reduces skin inflammation and irritation, you’ll receive a relaxing hand and arm massage.
