Hyaluronic Acid

What is Hyaluronic Acid?

Hyaluronic Acid is one of our greatest assets when it comes to fighting the effects of aging. Don’t let the word acid scare you. This isn't your harsh, strip-your-skin kind of acid, but a powerful humectant that keeps skin looking young, hydrated and plump. Hyaluronic Acid is a naturally occurring Glycosaminoglycan (GAG) component present in our bodies. It plays a key role in keeping joints and ligaments lubricated as well as regulating water levels, distributing nutrients and helping maintain the skin's elasticity.  Hyaluronic Acid plays a critical role in communicating with skin cells deep within the dermis. It also acts as a vehicle to carry active ingredients deep into the skin while retaining more that 1000 times its molecular weight in water. Hyaluronic Acid provides hydration in the skin while immediately plumping and smoothing fine lines and wrinkles, driving active ingredients deep within the skin and providing antioxidant protection. You know the term “smooth as a baby’s butt?"  This term comes from the fact that babies are born with a high level of Hyaluronic Acid, keeping their skin soft and supple. A great tip to achieve the best results from your Hyaluronic Acid is to apply it to the skin along with other skin care products. This gives the skin advanced results from anti-aging treatments and exceptional hydration.

As we age, our Hyaluronic Acid production diminishes, especially during middle-age years. There's hope, though, in replenishing Hyaluronic Acid to our skin. Topical skin care treatments, along with creams and serums containing Hyaluronic Acid, are beneficial to all skin types, including oily, because it's a natural substance occurring in our bodies. Though Hyaluronic Acid is a larger molecule that binds water to the top of our skin, it can still penetrate the top layer of the skin (stratum conrneum), giving skin the advantage of higher levels of hydration and improving the skin's elasticity. Hyaluronic Acid will always be a popular ingredient in lip care products because of its plumping ability and ability of protecting the collagen in our lips. Topical lip treatments can provide lips with incredible moisture, plumpness and protection, giving them beautiful and smooth volume.

In a nutshell, Hyaluronic Acid is an important and fantastic ingredient that's beneficial for all skin types and conditions. If you're looking for an ingredient in a skincare product that provides wonderful anti-aging benefits and plumps up skin for a wrinkle-free, supple skin structure, give Hyaluronic Acid a try.

Chemical knowledge: hyaluronic acid

Hyaluronic Acid is naturally presented in the human body, specifically in our joints. It helps keep our joints lubricated. Hyaluronic Acid is also the source for holding our body's moisture. In fact, it can be responsible for holding up to 1,000 times it's own weight in water! It's primary job is to bind water and to lubricate the tissue and joints of the body. It is also natures cushion because it keeps connective tissue and joints well lubricated. Unfortunately, bodily injuries and/or a lack of acid production due to age, can cause a decrease in Hyaluronic Acid over time. Hyaluronic Acid...
